Company registration

The legal concept of the company has existed for over 500 years.
The essence of the company is a body of persons working together under a set of directors using capital invested by shareholders. The directors don't have to be shareholders and the shareholders don't have to be directors.
The directors are responsible for making a profit to be paid to the shareholders as dividends. The directors are not liable for the company's debts, only if they trade recklessly. The shareholders are not liable for anything more than the paid-for shares; they can also sell their shares to a third party.
A South African private company can have up to 50 shareholders/directors. It is designated by the suffix "(Proprietary) Limited", abbreviated "(Pty) Ltd", e.g. "Kembul (Pty) Ltd".
Accountkeeper refers you to its associate, eCC, for company registration services. You can form a new company from the start or purchase a company off the shelf. If you would like to learn more about this, you may enter the eCC site on its Orders page by clicking here.
